a. Shall advise on policy regarding maintenance.
b. Shall ensure that all workshops function efficiently.
c. Shall ensure the proper training of all mechanics and technicians.
d. Shall in consultation with the Research and Development department design and install appropriate communication infrastructure including ICT.
e. Shall ensure that there are adequate tools for repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment and communication infrastructure.
f. Shall in conjunction with the operations department recommend to the Chief Fire Officer, the most suitable type of fire fighting equipment, vehicles and communication equipment.
g. Shall perform any other responsibility assigned.

DIVISIONS UNDER TECHNICAL SERVICES
OFFICER-IN-CHARGE - COMMUNICATION WORKSHOP
Shall be responsible to the Head of Technical Services in all matters relating to the management of communication facilities. Responsibilities include:
a. Establishment and maintenance of the appropriate communications infrastructure at all levels of Fire Service Operations.
b. Establishment and maintenance of reliable radio communication and telecommunication systems.
c. Shall ensure the proper functioning of the workshop.
d. Ensure that equipment and tools are made available for use at the workshop.
e. Responsible for coordinating activities under the section.
f. Responsible for training and development of subordinates.
g. Manage performance of subordinates and provide feedback on their performance.
h. Responsible for the maintenance and installation of computer networking.
