UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST & GHANA NATIONAL FIRE SERVICE SIGNS MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT TO ENHANCE APPLICATION OF SCIENTIFIC METHODS IN FIRE INVESTIGATION

 

The Management of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement to train Fire Personnel in the field of Forensic Investigation.

In a short ceremony that took place at the University of Cape Coast on 27th June, 2019, the Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Joseph Darty Appiah said, the collaboration between the Fire Service and the University will go a long way to enhance the application of modern scientific methods in the area of Fire Management in the country.

The Chief Fire Officer in his speech noted that the collaboration between the two institutions is timely because it will address the scientific needs of the Service in terms of fire investigations thereby assisting the Fire Service with more effective and efficient ways of dealing with fire outbreaks and other life threatening situations.

The initiator of the collaboration between the two institutions Dr. Afoakwa from the Forensic Department of the University promised that the UCC will assist GNFS in the establishment of a Fire Laboratory and Forensic Unit and would help facilitate the sourcing of funds, resources and equipment to ensure that the programme is sustained.
